Waikiki Hotel Site Development Application

In August 2007, Council granted planning approval to the redevelopment of the Waikiki Hotel and Motel site located on the corner of Safety Bay Road and Malibu Road, Safety Bay for a mixed-use development, comprising of 165 dwellings and 860m2 of commercial and retail floorspace.

The Western Australian Planning Commission ('WAPC") approval was also required for the extra building height between 5 and 8 storeys. On the 13th December 2007 the WAPC granted planning approval to the development under the Metropolitan Region Scheme. The next stage of the project is for the developer to prepare detailed drawings and specifications to submit as an application for building licence. The approval granted by Council and the WAPC requires the development to be substantially commenced within a period of 2 years.
