Storm Event Update
Date Published: 11/06/2012
Severe weather on Sunday June 10 has left up to 107, 000 Perth homes and businesses without electricity. So far Western Power has restored power supply to about 60 000 customers. Some suburbs in the City of Rockingham such as Baldivis and Port Kennedy are some of the worst affected.
Safety Alerts
Several roads in the Rockingham area are currently closed due to power lines and or trees down:
- Darile Street Hillman
- Doghill Road intersection with Horsfall Road, Baldivis (trees and power lines).
- Noonan Road intersection Park Drive, Cooloongup
- Bradbury Street intersection Kitson Street.
There may be trees and debris on many local roads, and we urge drivers to proceed with caution. City Officers have worked through the night to clear roads of fallen trees and debris.
More storms are forecast for the next two days. This type of weather could damage homes and make travel dangerous. Residents are urged to tie up and remove loose items from outdoor areas and secure animals.
Report a Hazard
If your property has been badly damaged in the storm telephone SES on 132 500.
After a storm SES volunteers make temporary repairs to homes that have been badly damaged, such as roofs that have been ripped off or large fallen trees on homes and cars. Please contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs. Property owners must make arrangements for temporary fencing if pool fencing is damaged. Do not use sheeting material, which could become projectile in the next forecast storm tomorrow.
If you see a power cable or power pole down telephone: Western Power: 13 13 51
Western Power is currently prioritising critical and hazardous events and is diverting all crews to emergency work. Small pockets of the network have been restored where there are no safety hazards but much of the restoration work can only occur after areas have been assessed to ensure they are safe to re-energise.
Some houses may be without power for several days and Western Power is asking for people to be patient and to consider relocating to homes of family and friends that have power.
Western Power crews have restored power to the Peel Health Campus and Rockingham Kwinana Hospital. Power was restored to Bunbury Regional Hospital, Augusta Hospital and Ravensthorpe hospital yesterday or during the night.
