Serviced Apartment Proposal for Rockingham

Date Published: 9/08/2012

City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels was last night delighted to announce the City has received a Development Application for the development of a seven storey Quest Serviced Apartment complex with conference facilities in Flinders Lane Rockingham:

“This is fantastic news for our region, and there are very strong indicators there is a need for suitable short and extended stay accommodation in Rockingham.

“The $8 million proposal will go through the Development Assessment Panel process, and it is envisaged the serviced apartments will provide high-quality accommodation facilities to Defence personnel relocating to the area, tourists visiting Penguin Island, the dive school, and people stopping in for the weekend.

“Given the anticipated growth of activities at Stirling Naval base and Henderson Marine Complex, this is the start of the Rockingham Waterfront area becoming a major business tourism hub, inevitably attracting more large-scale accommodation developments, possibly on this site and others in the vicinity.

“For a long time the City has been a strong advocate for the Waterfront Village area to provide enough accommodation facilities to support visitors and tourists, who currently source accommodation in Perth or Fremantle.

“City staff will work closely with the developers to ensure that the development meets all planning policies and guidelines relating to the waterfront area.

“This development and those we hope to see in the future, will provide a significant economic boost to the restaurants and small bars in the waterfront area, and over time will attract more investment and more venues. That of course leads to more local employment opportunities. It also leads to locals having a great range of food and beverage opportunities to enjoy in their leisure time.

“Our leisure tourism industry will also certainly benefit from this development and hopefully grow after many years of awaiting an announcement like this.

“Quest Serviced Apartments have more than 140 locations in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. They are integrated with all other global tourism brands within traditional supply chains and marketing channels and enjoy a very solid reputation, particularly with business tourism clients.”

Quest Serviced Apartments General Manager - Location, Andrew Weisz said "We are delighted to receive early support from Council in relation to the proposed Quest Rockingham development in Flinders Lane.  We look forward to working closely with Council and the developer as the approval process progresses".
