Mayor Sammels Recognised for Long and Loyal Service

City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels has been recognised for his long commitment to Local Government at this year’s WA Local Government Association (WALGA) Convention where he was presented with a Long and Loyal Service Award.
Mayor Sammels has been a Councillor at the City of Rockingham for 15 years, and Mayor for nine of those. In that time he has been a part of the decision making process and leadership that has seen unprecedented growth and development in the City.
He said he enjoys the challenges of being part of a forward thinking Council in a high-growth area: “I’m so honoured to be nominated for this award. Being a part of Rockingham Council is a challenging and interesting position and it’s a role that I really enjoy.
“I meet so many different people and I enjoy making a positive difference to our community and local area.”
Thirty-six Elected Members and Local Government Officers were presented with the Honours Awards at Tuesday’s WALGA Annual General Meeting at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
