Castaways Photography Competition

Winners of the first City of Rockingham Castaways Photography Competition, have been announced.

Richelle Preisser was the won the $200 first prize with her photograph of Alcoa Second Prize winning sculpture ‘DIY Rocket’ by Lewis Horne, entitled ‘Burning Rocket’. Judge Matt Nankivell of Nankivell Creative,called it “eye catching, being technically very well composed and complimented with well managed lighting.”

”The photo communicates the unique character and inspirational nature of the [Castaways] event”.

Second place was awarded to Michele Henry who won $125 for her photograph entitled ‘Surreal’, based Ruth Acton’s sculpture ‘Salt’. The third prize of $75 was awarded to Debbie Steven, with ‘Tall and Proud’, a photograph based on Carol Clitheroe’s Sustainable Living Award winning sculpture ‘Displaced’.

The Castaways Photography Competition, in its first year in 2012, attracted nearly 170 entries. All photos were taken during the Castaways Sculpture Awards, presented by the City of Rockingham on the Rockingham foreshore during May each year.

City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels, congratulated all entrants on their submissions: “I would like to acknowledge everyone who entered the first Castaways Photography Competition; I was impressed with many of the entries, which showcased our sculpture awards and award winning beach.

“It is wonderful how many talented photographers we have in our area. Congratulations to winners; RIchelle Priesser, Michele Henry and Debbie Steven.”
