City of Rockingham's Out Of School Hours Care (OOSHC) Service Closure
The OOSHC service has been experiencing decreasing numbers and increasing costs over the last few years and as a result a comprehensive review of the service was undertaken in 2013. Key findings were: the increasing number of providers of a similar OOSHC service across the City, the small number of families accessing the City’s service, availability of assistance for children with a disability, and availability of funding assistance for parents universal to all providers, identified the need for a City delivered service has reduced across time.
Therefore, it was deemed appropriate to table the information derived from the review to Council with a clear recommendation and on Tuesday 25 February 2014 Council approved:
“the closure of the City of Rockingham Out of School Hours Care Service to take effect at close of business on Friday 11 April 2014, being the last day of Term One.”
Extensive consideration was given as to the most appropriate date to close the OOSHC in order to have the least impact on parents and children, and identified the date of Friday 11 April 2014 (the last day of Term 1) as appropriate. This gives parents time to locate an alternate provider for Term 1 vacation care and for Term 2. Additionally this will enable the children attending OOSHC to complete Term 1 without having to change their OOSHC arrangements.
Parents whose children currently attend the service will receive individual notification of the closure, along with details regarding alternate service providers relevant to their children’s school who currently have vacancies as at Monday 24 February 2014. If you have not received a letter please contact the Coordinator on 9592 5372.
