Nature Trails & Heritage Walks
Our nature walks can be very educational and enjoyable at the same time, view the details on them below:

Lake Richmond is a perennial freshwater lake, 1000m long and 600m across. It is unusually deep for a lake on the Swan coastal plain (up to 15m in depth) but the level fluctuates seasonally according to rainfall. The water area is approximately 40ha. The lake is a marine relic, previously part of the southern extension of Cockburn Sound which was filled in during the last 4,000 years. In 1968 inlet and outlet drains were constructed to provide drainage for new housing development in Rockingham.
This has reduced salinity and the lake now remains fresh all year round and is also home to the critically endangered ecological community called the thrombolites (shown to the left).
