Rockingham Museum and Local History Library

Rockingham Museum is a community museum which is managed by the Rockingham District Historical Society Inc. and is committed to the collection, preservation, documentation, and interpretation of the heritage of Western Australia in General with the emphasis on the history of the Rockingham District, for the future education and enjoyment of the wider community.

The Rockingham Museum is a Volunteer run, not for profit organisation managed by the Rockingham District Historical Society Inc. The museum has operated on the present site since 1979. In 1946 a new Rockingham Roads Board Office was built on the corner of Kent Street and Flinders Lane. After new Shire buildings were constructed in 1971, the Roads Board Office was taken over by the Rockingham District Historical Society.

The museums collection tells the story of our cities heritage and pioneers. The displays are changed regularly with some permanent, including Childhood display, domestic items, Group Settlement, natural history and Royal Family Memorabilia.

Special displays are held during each year. We have a large photographic collection and Local History Library, this library can be used by general public and researches during opening hours of the museum. Members of Rockingham District Historical Society can borrow books from the library as part of their membership. This library covers most local government localities in Western Australia. Local newspapers are available for perusal on microfilm and hard copy. Our volunteers will also undertake research.

General Meetings of the Society are held on the last Friday of each month of February to November inclusive with interesting speakers. New members and visitors are always welcome. For further information phone 9592 3455.

The Rockingham Museum and Local History Library is one of the best laid out and most interesting folk museums in the country. You can view an excellent range of items and displays relating to:

  • Books, photographs, videos and microfilms
  • Stained glass window dedicated to the pioneer women
  • Clothes and fashions
  • Group Settlement farms
  • Household items
  • Children's toys
  • Antique photographic equipment
  • Souvenirs from the two World Wars

Granary Museum

The Granary Museum located at the CBH Grain Terminal is a special initiative of the CBH Group, created to commemorate the tenacity and vision of the grain growers of Western Australia and to chronicle the evolution of one of the most advanced and efficient grain bulk handling systems in the world.

The award winning Granary Museum holds a wealth of historic authentic artifacts and materials collected and created for public viewing over three years thanks to the perseverance of CBH Group staff and the co-operation of many generous people. The tour includes displays reconstructed scenes from rural Western Australia and is performed by dedicated tour staff.

A tour can be arranged, four weeks in advance for a group of ten or more. For a tour of the museum, contact the CBH Kwinana Grain Terminal on 08 9599 6333.
