Mayor's Message

Over the past 20 years, the City of Rockingham has been reinvented.
We have grown from a sleepy, coastal town to a bustling city with a population of 100,000.

As the Mayor of Rockingham, I am excited about the many initiatives, developments projects and opportunities that are coming together to invigorate and strengthen our great city.

One of the biggest challenges we face as a growing city is keeping up with the demand for suitable infrastructure developments that will continue to improve the lifestyle for the community.

Thus far, I am extraordinarily proud of what we have achieved.

In June 2008, we officially opened the Lark Hill Sportsplex - a $26 million first-class sporting complex and one of the most sophisticated multi-use facilities of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

Rockingham has always been a strong sports orientated city, and this facility recognises a new beginning in sport and recreation in our community.
This project follows on from another significant infrastructure project: the Warnbro Aqua Jetty.

Built at a cost of $16 million, this aquatic and recreation facility is proving to be a worthwhile investment for our city and our residents.

We are also extremely proud of the newest addition to our city: the Gary Holland Community Centre. This exciting new facility developed as a part of the Waterfront Village Urban Renewal project in partnership with the state and federal governments, and together with the Village Green and Village Square, offers a modern and vibrant community hub at the beachfront.

Like any growing city, we are working diligently to combat crime and anti-social behaviour. We are constantly reinvesting in Rockingham’s neighbourhoods and communities through initiatives like our new Community Security Service.

Through proactive mobile patrols, this service aims to reduce crime and the fear of crime and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

One of the most significant changes we have seen in the last year is the activation of the Perth to Mandurah passenger train. This fantastic service means we are only 35 minutes from the centre of Perth, completely transforming a city commute and making Rockingham much more accessible for visitors by providing seamless connectivity.

The City of Rockingham is also proud to be working in partnership with the Rockingham City Shopping Centre owners, Colonial First State and the State Government to facilitate the major redevelopment and expansion of our shopping mall.

Costing an estimated $160 million, this upgrade is about to bring the people of Rockingham and our visitors the shopping experience they have been waiting for.
With an average age of 33 years, Rockingham’s population is one of the youngest in Australia and, as we continue to grow, we know the future of the city depends on our young people.

Our aim is to work in partnership with the people of Rockingham to create a leading city with a vibrant community and relaxed coastal lifestyle while striving to offer the best facilities available.

Still, no matter how much this community adapts to the changing economy, new technologies and industries, our core values have not changed. Rockingham’s most important quality is our people.

Our cultural heritage continues to be a strength, which is becoming richer as Rockingham attracts people from all over the world to be a part of an emerging creative economy and tight-knit community.
